Miller-Meeks gives a thumbs up while Iowa families struggle with rising costs this summer

As Iowa families prepare for summer, rising gas prices and food costs are forcing impossible choices between filling up the tank and feeding their children. Meanwhile, Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks recently dismissed concerns on gas costs, claiming prices are "going in the right direction," a statement that rings hollow for working Iowans watching their budgets collapse.

Miller-Meeks has repeatedly voted in support of tariffs that are raising the prices of nearly everything. Last year, she voted for the Republican Tax Law which included the largest cuts in history to Medicaid costing Iowans multiple clinic closures with more hospitals still at risk, to make permanent massive tax breaks for billionaires. The law also included substantial cuts to SNAP, meaning less Iowans are able to keep their families fed and putting strain on food pantries

Kristin, a mom of four in Miller-Meeks’ district, said that families like hers are struggling.

"As a single mom, I've had to make do with what I have at times. But recently, I've had to borrow money for gas to get my kids to school. These aren't luxury trips, it's getting them to class and picking up my oldest from college. When our representatives say things are 'going in the right direction,' they're not talking to people like me who are balancing how much to put in the car with what to buy at the grocery store.”
