Miller-Meeks Points Fingers Instead of Working for Iowans

While families struggle, her priorities remain out of step with constituents

IOWA — As the federal government shutdown stretches on and TSA agents work without pay, Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks has continued pointing fingers at Democrats, rather than refusing to reopen the government and address the rising costs facing Iowans. Her recent public statements suggest she is more concerned with blaming whoever opposes Trump than encouraging her colleagues to work across the aisle and reopen the government for the American people.

At a time when households are already facing higher costs for groceries, health care, and fuel due to her support of Trump’s tariffs, Miller-Meeks’ approach highlights a pattern of misplaced priorities. Over her tenure, she has supported historic cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, voted to increase energy costs, refused to extend the ACA tax credits, resulting in skyrocketing premiums for thousands of Iowans, and prioritized tax breaks for corporations and wealthy donors over working families.

At a moment when Iowans are struggling just to make ends meet, families are counting on a functional government that runs smoothly and uses their tax dollars responsibly. Instead, Miller-Meeks and her party are demanding more funding for ICE instead of providing economic stability for working families who are put at risk, forcing Iowans to pay more and TSA agents to work without pay to appease Trump.

“This is a moment for leadership, to roll up your sleeves and get the government back to work for Iowans,” Mazie Stilwell, director of Progress Iowa, said. “Instead, even though Miller-Meeks already supported a $75 billion increase for ICE, she is more interested in handing ICE even more money, funding a war overseas, and prioritizing billionaires.”
