NEW REPORT: Iowans Have Paid $3,000 More Under Trump and Republicans in Congress as Costs Keep Climbing

Updated JEC data shows Iowa families paying roughly $3,000 more as Nunn and Miller-Meeks back tariffs, war, and billionaire tax breaks

A newly updated Joint Economic Committee (JEC) Minority report shows that the average American household has had to spend more than $3,500 extra on everyday goods and services since President Trump took office and Republicans took control of Congress, with state-specific data showing Iowa families are paying  over $3,000 more. 

The updated figures directly contradict the repeated promises Trump and Congressional Republicans—including Representatives Zach Nunn and Marianette Miller-Meeks—made on the campaign trail that his administration would "end inflation" and bring down costs on day one. Instead, Trump's reckless tariffs, war with Iran and the Republican Tax Law have driven costs higher across every essential category — groceries, gas, housing and health care.

"This report confirms what Iowans already know: prices are not falling," Mazie Stilwell, Executive Director of Progress Iowa said. "Every time families go to the grocery store, fill up the tank, or pay the rent, they're feeling the impact of tariffs, war, and a tax law that hands billions to billionaires while gutting Medicaid and SNAP. Nunn and Miller-Meeks like to say they've cut costs, but the truth is they've delivered higher costs for everyday necessities while protecting the wealthy and well-connected."

Rather than working to bring costs down, Representatives Zach Nunn and Mariannette Miller-Meeks have backed the very policies driving them up — voting for Trump's tariffs impacting farmers and everyday goods, supporting the escalating conflict in Iran raising gas prices, and voting for historic cuts to Medicaid and SNAP that pull money out of local economies and kick Iowans off of health care and food assistance that help them make ends meet.
