Nunn and Miller-Meeks continue voting to hurt Iowans to help Trump’s agenda

Just as they have had the authority to stop tariffs, today, our representatives could have voted to end the war in Iran. But, as gas prices spike and families across Iowa struggle with rising costs, Representatives Zach Nunn and Mariannette Miller-Meeks have made their priorities crystal clear: they voted to give President Trump blank-check authority to wage war in Iran without congressional approval.

Iowans are struggling to afford basic necessities as the average gas price across Iowa has risen to $4.30 as of May 14, 2026 and inflation hit nearly 4% in April. Despite campaigning on the issue in the past, Nunn and Miller-Meeks no longer want to talk about gas prices, leaving Iowans scrambling to pay nearly 50% more for an everyday essential.

Mazie Stilwell, executive director of Progress Iowa, said this vote is yet another example of Nunn and Miller-Meeks going along with Trump instead of lowering costs for Iowans.

“While Iowans are struggling to put food on the table, our representatives voted to give the President unlimited spending power for a war they won't even define”, Stilwell said “Iowa families are drowning in costs: gas, groceries, healthcare, everything –  and our representatives just signed a blank check for endless conflict instead of fighting for us at home. That's not leadership. That's choosing war profiteers over working Iowans.”
