STATEMENT: Miller-Meeks’ Photo Ops Won't Hide Her Medicaid Cuts

While Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks continues her press tour celebrating funding for rural health projects, Fairness for Iowa released the following statement from partner and Progress Iowa Executive Director Mazie Stilwell:

"Every Iowan wants Keokuk to have access to emergency care. Communities deserve hospitals, clinics, doctors, and emergency rooms close to home. That's exactly why Representative Miller-Meeks' photo op is so insulting.

Her votes to make historic cuts to Medicaid are burning the house down, while she brags about bringing a squirt gun to save the day. Iowa's health care system is in crisis because Miller-Meeks voted to cut health care to fund tax breaks for billionaires. Hospitals and clinics have already announced closures, eliminated services, and laid off staff. Rural providers are warning that more communities will lose access to care. Families are paying higher premiums after she refused to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits and voted against bringing them back. Thousands of Iowans face losing Medicaid coverage because of the law she supported. Those aren't hypotheticals, they're happening right now.

Miller Meeks voted to cut  $7 to $12 billion from Iowa's health care system over the next decade just to finance more tax breaks for billionaires and large corporations. She owes Iowa more than one hospital.”
