‘Broken Promises, Broken Hearts’ Constituents Deliver Valentines to Miller-Meeks After State of the Union
Attacks on the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid, Rising Health Care Costs For Millions Set the Stage for Trump’s State of the Union Address
Yesterday, constituents of Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks delivered messages to her Davenport office.
Miller-Meeks constituents called on her to stop attacking American health care. The Congresswoman,Trump and Republicans cut over $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) — the largest health care cuts in history — ripping coverage away from 15 million Americans and spiking costs for millions more. With premiums soaring, hospitals shutting down, and public health in total crisis, Trump hoped to distract the American people with empty promises to lower drug costs.
Despite lie after lie about so-called efforts to bring down prices, Trump and Congressional Republicans have done nothing to lower prices for patients. Instead, they are trying to take credit for the Democrat-led Inflation Reduction Act savings while handing out tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations, including drug companies.
Written on Valentine's Day earlier this month, the messages voice constituents’ frustrations with Miller-Meeks’ decisions to support policies that hurt them.
K made her Valentine by hand and focused on her frustrations with Miller-Meeks’ vote for the Republican Tax Law, making disastrous cuts to Medicaid and other programs.
“I'm furious that Mariannette Miller-Meeks voted for the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’, slashing healthcare access for millions of Americans, including her own constituents. A former physician should know better and do better, and frankly, we deserve better than her."
Since the Congresswoman is seemingly averse to meeting with her constituents in-person, participants had to speak with a cardboard cutout of Miller-Meeks instead.
David took this opportunity to ask the stand-in Rep. about her role as a doctor and how that conflicts with voting to take health care away from thousands of her constituents.
“How does your Hippocratic Oath relate to your votes? Because, you seem to violate it anytime you vote on anything related to health care.”
