In response to the State of the Union Iowans call out Reps. Nunn and Miller-Meeks for raising prices
Following President Trump's State of the Union address last night, Iowans called out their Representatives Zach Nunn and Mariannette Miller-Meeks for their unwavering support of an agenda that harms working families, farmers, veterans and seniors across the state.
Throughout the nearly 2-hour speech, Trump bragged about tariffs and devastating cuts to health care and other critical programs that are hurting millions of Americans while GOP lawmakers cheered him on.
Peter, a retired Iowan in Des Moines, says that deciding on these harmful policies is as simple as right or wrong, and shared that he is disappointed in Nunn’s decisions.
“It’s bad enough to make poor decisions that hurt people, but to make those decisions knowingly is completely different,” Peter said. “Nunn continues to do things that he knows are to the detriment of his constituents, yet he refuses to even meet with us. He knows that tariffs are costing Iowa families thousands of dollars, he knows that children across the state go to bed hungry, he knows that cuts to health care hurt Iowans, yet he supports and votes for these things anyway. He’s supposed to be representing us, not taking orders from billionaires.”
Peter has been so frustrated with Nunn’s support of tariffs that he is sharing the impacts of them on his fixed income in ads across Nunn’s district.
"Last night, Trump laid out an agenda of greed and cruelty — and Nunn and Miller-Meeks cheered him on," Mazie Stilwell, executive director of Progress Iowa said. "While they claim to stand for Iowans, their votes prove they stand with billionaires and corporations and continue to be puppets for Trump. Miller-Meeks in particular seemed to be falling over herself to get face time with Trump while she actively avoids face time with her constituents. Iowans deserve better.”
