Iowa Farmers Sound Alarm: Tariffs Backed by Congressman Nunn Are Devastating Rural Communities

As Iowa soybean and corn farmers reel from record-low commodity prices and soaring input costs, a growing chorus of rural voices call out the Trump administration’s tariff policies — and the GOP lawmakers, including Congressman Zach Nunn, who continue to support them.

Kevin Shilling, a truck driver and retired farmer from Greenfield, said that Congressman Zach Nunn’s support for Trump’s tariffs is turning Iowa’s record harvest into a financial disaster.

“Farmers just want an open and fair market,” Shilling said. “We’re going to see a lot of beans in storage, there’s nowhere else for them to go and small farmers are going to be hurt the most. Input costs haven’t been lowered, but the market price has really been lowered, so we'll see who's left holding the bag.”

Kevin is one of many Iowans speaking out through Fairness for Iowa — demanding Rep. Nunn put everyday Iowans over billionaire interests. Fairness for Iowa is backing a seven-figure multimedia ad campaign, with impacted Iowans calling out Nunn for supporting tariffs that are raising prices for working Iowa families. The ads highlight how Nunn’s votes are raising prices for working families at a time when many are already struggling to make ends meet.
