Miller-Meeks Doubles Down on the Wrong Priorities

As gas prices spike and families across Iowa struggle with rising costs, Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks is publicly supporting further escalation in the conflict with Iran, instead of focusing on lowering costs and increasing healthcare access for her constituents. Two Iowans have already lost their lives in counter-strikes, a stark reminder that these decisions carry real human consequences. At a time when Iowans are worried about paying for groceries, utilities, and gas, Miller-Meeks’ priorities remain out of step with the people she represents.

Instead of working to lower costs, Miller-Meeks has voted for massive cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, programs that Iowans rely on for health care and food assistance. Her support for eliminating clean energy tax credits has also contributed to higher utility costs for families already stretched thin.

Now, as tensions overseas contribute to rising global oil prices and higher gas costs here at home, Iowans are once again left footing the bill.

“Miller-Meeks should be focused on lowering costs for Iowa families, not cheering on policies that will make them worse,” said Mazie Stilwell, Executive Director of Progress Iowa. “She voted to cut health care and food assistance, supported policies that increase utility bills, and now backs escalation abroad that is already driving up gas prices. Iowans need relief, not political posturing.”

While families brace for higher prices at the pump and continued economic uncertainty, Miller-Meeks has chosen to align herself with Trump and billionaires instead of delivering real solutions for her constituents.

“Iowans deserve leadership that puts them first,” Stilwell added. “At a moment when families are already struggling, doubling down on the wrong priorities is unacceptable.”
