Miller-Meeks Votes to Cut Medicaid

Today, Congresswoman Miller-Meeks and Republicans sitting on the House Energy and Commerce Committee voted to rip health care away from Iowans who get their care because of Medicaid to pay for new tax breaks for the wealthy. Miller-Meeks’ cuts to Medicaid will put health care at risk for millions of Americans and the nearly 700,000 veterans, children, and seniors in Iowa who rely on Medicaid.

Eric Kusiak, a nurse manager in Miller-Meeks district, explains that cuts to Medicaid will decrease options available to rural Iowans.

“Without the funds that Medicaid brings in, rural hospitals are at risk of closure, which could have devastating impacts on our communities,” Kusiak said. ”Many rural families cannot afford to drive hours just to see a doctor. With these cuts, patients would get sicker, have fewer places to go, and have fewer healthcare workers to care for them. House Republicans and Miller-Meeks voted to take health care from millions of people including seniors, kids, and veterans to pay for more tax giveaways to the wealthy and corporations.”
