New Ad Calls on Miller-Meeks to bring back health care credits Ahead of Vote Thursday
Fairness for Iowa has launched new radio and digital ads calling out Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks for taking away tax credits that make health care affordable for thousands of Iowans and instead voting to give billionaires massive tax breaks.
Miller-Meeks had all of last year to lower health care costs but focused on helping billionaires and raising costs across the board for Iowans. Congress will vote on Thursday on whether or not to bring back the health care tax credits that help over 100,000 Iowans afford health care, giving Miller-Meeks another shot to vote for lower costs and put constituents first.
The ads feature Jill Kordick, a retiree in Norwalk Iowa, sharing that her Affordable Care Act premium will increase by nearly $9,000 in 2026. She also calls out that last year, Miller-Meeks called the health care tax credits a ‘bailout’ and said plans to protect the credits were ‘unreasonable’.
“In 2025 I paid about $75 a month for my ACA coverage and in 2026 I’m expected to pay over $800 a month,” Kordick said. “Miller-Meeks has supported higher health care costs, tariffs and cuts to vital programs like Medicaid and SNAP. That’s not the kind of leadership Iowans need. She has another shot to lower our costs this week. Miller-Meeks needs to support the health tax credits to lower costs for Iowans.”
These ads are the first in what will be Fairness for Iowa’s seven-figure radio and digital ad campaign in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District.
Radio ad script:
I was in absolute shock when I got the notice. I thought it was a mistake. In October, my health insurance company told me my premiums were going up nine thousand dollars a year. Nine thousand dollars.
Turns out, it’s because Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks got her way, and Republicans in Congress took away our health care tax credits.
Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks called a plan to protect health care tax credits “Unreasonable.”
But she found it reasonable to give billionaires another tax break.
That doesn’t seem fair to me. I live in Norwalk on a fixed income and can’t afford to pay nine thousand dollars more a year. And it’s not just me. Health insurance is skyrocketing for over 100,000 Iowans because of Mariannette Miller-Meeks.
Please call Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks at (202) 225-6576. Tell her to vote to bring back our health care tax credits and stop raising our health care costs.
Digital ad script:
Without the health care tax credits, my premiums cost 10 times more. Is an extra $9,000 laying around in savings? No. I don’t know anyone in Iowa who can keep up with that.
Mariannette Miller-Meeks got her way and Republicans in Congress took away our health care tax credits. She said keeping them was unreasonable.
But she supported huge tax breaks for billionaires.
What I think is unreasonable is another tax break for them while we pay more. She’s got to stop raising our costs.
