NEW FAIRNESS FOR IOWA ADS: Iowa mom calls out Congresswoman Miller-Meeks for making the largest cuts in history to Medicaid
Fairness for Iowa launched new radio and digital ads in their ongoing ad campaign calling out Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks for voting for massive cuts to Medicaid that will hurt Iowa families.
Miller-Meeks voted for the largest cuts in history to Medicaid last year, leaving thousands of Iowans worried about their health care options and rural hospitals at risk of closing, to make permanent massive tax breaks for billionaires.
Featured in the ads is Jonna Higgins-Freese, a mother of two in Iowa City. She shares her story with two sons that depend on Medicaid for essential health care.
“Hundreds of thousands of Iowans rely on Medicaid, including families just like us,” Higgins-Freese said. “Both my kids have had chronic health conditions since birth and Medicaid covers what private insurance doesn’t. Without that help, they wouldn’t be able to get the care they need. Miller-Meeks’ decision to side with billionaires and corporations over thousands of her own constituents shows that her priorities do not align with her job title.”
Digital ad script:
Sometimes the hardest part of taking care of two kids with chronic medical conditions is trying to afford it. Medicaid makes that possible.
It’s unconscionable that Miller Meeks voted to slash it.
That’ll make life harder and less affordable for families like mine. Why is she giving tax breaks to billionaires at the expense of families like ours?
This will hurt people. It’s just wrong.
Radio ad script:
It’s hard to put into words how proud I am of my sons. Ruben spent the first 3 months of his life in the NICU and relies on 24 hour care to live. Henry has a rare genetic blood disorder that required multiple surgeries. Despite all that, my boys are thriving today. Ruben volunteers to help other children with special needs, and Henry is touring colleges. This would not be possible without Medicaid. There’s no way we could afford it.
But Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks voted for the largest Medicaid cut in history to give more tax breaks to billionaires.
Almost 700,000 Iowans like us rely on Medicaid. But Congresswoman Miller-Meeks decided tax cuts for billionaires were more important.
Please call Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks at 202-225-6576 and tell her to stop attacking our health care. My kids' lives depend on it.
