Reps. Nunn and Miller-Meeks Vote for Tariffs (Again) that Keep Raising Prices for Iowa Families
Today, Representatives Zach Nunn and Mariannette Miller-Meeks voted for tariffs on all countries, continuing their support for policies that raise costs for Iowa families.
Last night, they voted to maintain the 50% tariffs on Brazil, directly impacting the prices of everyday essentials like coffee, beef, cocoa, sugar, fruits, and seafood. Nunn and Miller-Meeks’ support for tariffs is part of a larger agenda that prioritizes tax breaks for billionaires and corporations over the needs of working families.
On top of voting in support of tariffs, Republicans already made massive cuts to Medicaid and SNAP to pay for tax breaks for billionaires, and are threatening to shut down the government unless they are able to take away health care from millions of working people and families, raising their costs.
Matt Chapman lives in Waukee and has already felt the impact of tariffs at the grocery store.
“Milk, eggs, meat, the price of everything has been going up," Chapman said. "Seeing Rep. Nunn continue to support tariffs has been discouraging because back here in Iowa we are all struggling to keep up with rising costs. I have to make cuts to my grocery lists and families are having to make hard decisions like choosing between food, medicine, or bills. The rent always eats first.”
