More Tariffs Announced that Will  Raise Costs for Iowa Families

Last week, the Trump administration announced a slew of new tariffs on trucks, lumber, furniture, pharmaceuticals and more that will raise prices for Iowans. Collection of tariffs revenues will continue while the government is shut down – keeping costs high for small businesses and families. Meanwhile, Republicans were unwilling to lower healthcare costs and shut the government down, leaving many programs and services families rely on in limbo. All of this is happening so that Republicans can pay for tax breaks for billionaires.

Congressman Zach Nunn has supported tariffs this year, even saying that they are winning, meanwhile Iowans are paying more for almost every purchase made. Farms and factories are being hit hard, costing thousands of jobs across the Midwest alone.

Nikki Gomez, mother of two from Des Moines, says that she’s already living paycheck to paycheck.

“Nunn’s support of tariffs shows how out of touch with working Iowans he is,” Gomez said. “I’ve already had to make cuts to my grocery lists and with more tariffs constantly being announced, I don’t know how families like mine are going to make ends meet.”

Fairness for Iowa has a seven-figure multimedia ad campaign calling out Congressman Zach Nunn for supporting tariffs that are raising prices for working Iowa families. The ads highlight how Nunn’s votes are raising prices for working families at a time when many are already struggling to make ends meet.
