Reps. Nunn and Miller-Meeks already voted to cut Medicaid, now have one last chance to protect it
July 1, 2025
The GOP Tax Scam has now passed in the U.S. Senate, meaning it heads back to the House for approval.
Representatives Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn not only abandoned their constituents when they voted for the GOP Tax Scam the first time — they chose to put billionaires over working people and put healthcare at risk for 106,781 Iowans. In their version of the bill, Iowans’ lives hang in the balance, as 116 additional Iowans could die every year.
Following their vote, Representatives Nunn and Miller-Meeks signed onto a letter asking the Senate to protect Medicaid from further cuts. Now that the Senate has passed an even harsher version of the bill, cutting more than $1 trillion from Medicaid, even more Iowans would lose their healthcare.. Senators Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley refused to put the needs of their constituents above billionaire tax breaks. Now Iowans need Reps. Nunn and Miller-Meeks to vote against the bill to stop massive Medicaid cuts and focus instead on lowering costs for working families.
“Iowans have said before and are continuing to say: hands off Medicaid,” Progress Iowa Executive Director Mazie Stilwell said. “Reps. Nunn and Miller-Meeks have already voted once to cut Medicaid to pay for tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy. This time, they should put working Iowans first and vote against the GOP Tax Scam.”
