Stop the Grinchiness! Holiday Carolers Hold Rep. Miller-Meeks Accountable

Today, a group of Iowans rallied outside Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks’ Davenport office, telling her to ‘Stop the Grinchiness’.

Constituents in attendance called out Miller-Meeks’ “Grinchy” behavior with holiday carols and costumes. From cutting Medicaid and SNAP and threatening health tax credits, to supporting tariffs that drive up prices, to cutting home energy credits and heating assistance for seniors, Miller-Meeks has racked up quite the naughty list.

Jay Williams, a grandfather from Bettendorf caring for his grandson with complex medical needs, spoke about the importance of Medicaid, a program that Miller-Meeks voted to cut this year

“Across this Iowa and this country, Medicaid supports children with complex medical needs, seniors who cannot survive without long-term care, people with disabilities who rely on daily services, families facing catastrophic illness, and caregivers who would otherwise be crushed under impossible costs,” Williams said. “Cutting Medicaid does not eliminate need. It simply shifts suffering onto families, onto emergency rooms, onto foster systems, onto communities already stretched thin. When Medicaid is weakened, children lose access to care, families are forced to choose between bankruptcy and separation, and trauma compounds instead of heals.”

"Regular healthcare and access to it is a no-brainer," Melissa Silver, an Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action member from Johnson County, said. "From refusing to extend ACA tax credits, kowtowing to big corporations that pollute our water, to being complicit in the disappearance of our neighbors by ICE, Rep. Miller-Meeks has been a disappointment every day this year."
