Did Hell Finally Freeze Over? Rep. Miller-Meeks Booed at Last Minute Town Hall
This afternoon, Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks held a town hall in Keosauqua, after just last month saying that she wouldn’t hold one until "hell freezes over."
Despite the Monday afternoon event being announced on Sunday, and hosted in a town of 944 people far from where a majority of those in her district live, the room was packed with constituents. Many in attendance voiced frustration with their Representative, indicated by frequent groans and boos from the room.
Questions were pre-screened and Miller-Meeks increasingly dodged questions, or flat out lied when it suited her. One example being when she was asked about her votes and support of tariffs, she replied that, “there hasn’t been a vote on tariffs in Congress.” She once again doubled down on her and Republicans’ refusal to lower healthcare costs, despite that being the cause of the longest government shutdown in history.
“Miller-Meeks has had nearly two months off work to come and hear from her constituents,” Progress Iowa Executive Director Mazie Stilwell said. “Instead, she’s been fundraising, and calling her constituents' demands for lower healthcare costs ‘unreasonable’. Unfortunately, her answers or lack thereof were in line with what Iowans have come to expect from her. Working Iowans deserve a leader that doesn’t hide from them or disregard their needs. Miller-Meeks needs to start working for her constituents by permanently extending healthcare tax credits and lowering healthcare costs.”
