ICYMI: Iowans Speak Out On Increased ACA Premiums

Rep. Miller-Meeks called affordable healthcare an ‘unreasonable demand’

Open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act marketplace started on Nov. 1, and Iowans have spoken out about their increased premiums due to Republicans refusal to make healthcare affordable.

Republicans in Congress have caused the longest government shutdown in history to avoid making healthcare affordable for millions of working Americans. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks has referred to affordable healthcare as a ‘bailout’ and an ‘unreasonable demand’ showing how out of touch with hardworking Iowans she is. While her constituents would love the opportunity to share their firsthand experiences with her, she continues to meet only with those who can afford her time, saying she will hold an in-person town hall to hear from her constituents ‘when hell freezes over’

From Iowa Starting Line:

Amber Gustafson, a mom in Ankeny, talked about facing $500 more for health coverage every month.

Lori Hunt, a cancer survivor in Des Moines, explained that with the increase, she won’t be able to afford healthcare at all.

On WHO 13 News, Mazie Stilwell, executive director of Progress Iowa, said that tens of thousands of Iowans will lose healthcare coverage altogether.
