Tariffs backed by Iowa's DC delegation under SCOTUS review
Rep. Nunn said 'tariffs are winning' as his constituents plead for help
Today, the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments on the President’s authority to unilaterally impose tariffs, a case that could be the only hope struggling families have for relief from rising costs, because at every turn, Congressional Republicans vote for higher prices.
Iowa’s members of Congress have continually voted for and supported tariffs despite the loss of jobs and rising costs they have caused. Congressman Zach Nunn has even said that “tariffs are winning,” leaving many constituents wondering who exactly is winning.
This year, Republicans in Congress have also voted for devastating cuts to programs like Medicaid and SNAP, and are currently prolonging the longest government shutdown in history because of their refusal to lower healthcare costs. Iowa families and small business owners are feeling the pinch from all around.
Cheryl Wieseler, a farmer and small business owner from Decorah, says that she and her family are being faced with impossible decisions.
“As my own accountant, I track our expenses every year, and they have been going up dramatically,” Wieseler said. “Small business owners like me are not only paying more for materials, but are paying more at the grocery store to feed our own families, too. As the costs of operating climb, I have to decide if I’m going to raise my prices and lose customers or not be able to pay my bills and put food on the table.”
Fairness for Iowa is backing a seven-figure multimedia ad campaign, with impacted Iowans calling out Nunn for supporting tariffs that are raising prices for working Iowa families. The ads include rapid response billboards to recent layoffs and highlight how Nunn’s votes are raising prices for working families at a time when many are already struggling to make ends meet.
