NEW ADS: Iowans are ‘heartbroken’ this Valentine's Day thanks to health care cuts

Fairness for Iowa has launched new digital ads calling out Representatives Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn for their votes to cut health care, causing MercyOne to announce several cuts in Iowa.

These cuts directly threaten the financial stability of rural hospitals and clinics by reducing critical funding that these facilities rely on to serve their communities, often making them vulnerable to closure. In a statement, MercyOne cited federal cuts as the reason for layoffs, saying that, “It is not possible to simply absorb such a significant financial impact.”

The ads point to the layoffs at MercyOne in Des Moines and a clinic closure in Ottumwa as consequences of Nunn and Miller-Meeks’ support for historic cuts to Medicaid and failure to protect health tax credits that lowered costs for Iowans. Health premiums for more than 100,000 Iowans are now rising.

These ads are in addition to Fairness for Iowa’s ongoing ad campaign, holding Nunn accountable for his support of and votes for policies, like tariffs, that raise prices on working Iowans and their families. The group has also begun placing ads to remind Iowans of Miller-Meeks support of tariffs and, including Jonna, a mom from Iowa City whose children’s  livelihoods rely on Medicaid, and Jill, whose premiums went from $900 to $9,000 when the tax credits expired.
