Nunn and Miller-Meeks continue to support tariffs that strain Iowans’ budgets

Fairness for Iowa calls for Reps. to vote ‘No’ on tariffs on Canada

Yesterday, Representatives Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn voted in favor of barring House challenges to Trump's tariffs. Fortunately for Iowans’ pocketbooks, that rule was not implemented.

Today, they will vote on a resolution that, if passed, would end Trump’s tariffs on Canada. Midwestern manufacturers including those in Iowa have reported job losses due to tariffs, and prices continue to rise for Iowa families. Tariffs on Canada have posed a unique threat to Iowa. Quaker Oats and General Mills facilities in Iowa import more than 90% of their oats from Canada and, right now, Canada buys almost one out of every three dollars’ worth of goods Iowa exports. The $9 billion in trade between the two makes Canada Iowa’s largest trading partner

Representatives Nunn and Miller-Meeks have continually voted for and supported Trump’s tariffs despite the loss of jobs and rising costs they have caused. Nunn has even said that “tariffs are winning,” leaving many constituents wondering who exactly is winning. Fairness for Iowa has released ads over the past year calling out both for their support of tariffs that are hurting hardworking Iowans, retirees and families

“Today our representatives have a chance to side with hardworking Iowans over Trump’s chaotic trade agenda,” Executive Director of Progress Iowa Mazie Stilwell said. “Iowa families are feeling the pinch at the checkout line, whether it be from the rising costs or layoffs caused by tariffs. Nunn and Miller-Meeks need to do the right thing for the Iowans they are supposed to represent and vote ‘No’ on tariffs on Canada.”
