Tariffs supported by Nunn and Miller-Meeks continue to strain Iowans’ budgets

SCOTUS to decide on presidential power to impose tariffs

The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to decide in the coming months on Trump’s power to impose sweeping tariffs that have kept inflation high and have cost jobs across the country.

The latest CPI report shows that inflation has remained higher than it was a year ago, and families across the country are feeling it. Additionally, Midwestern manufacturers including those in Iowa have reported job losses for the last nine consecutive months.

Congressman Zach Nunn and Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks have continually voted for and supported Trump’s tariffs despite the loss of jobs and rising costs they have caused. Nunn has even said that “tariffs are winning,” leaving many constituents wondering who exactly is winning. Fairness for Iowa has released ads over the past year calling out both for their support of tariffs that are hurting working families in Iowa.

Peter Rose, a retired Iowan featured in ads calling out Nunn’s support of tariffs, says that a decision by the Supreme Court is needed to do what the Republican Congress has refused: protect American consumers and put an end to out-of-control rising costs.

“The costs of everything are going up, it is really getting out of hand,” Rose said. “There’s trouble all across the board, wages and cost of living increases on Social Security are not keeping up with costs. A lot of people, myself included, are really depending on something being done to put a stop to this.”
